Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi delivered a keynote speech at India-Italy Business Forum, held in Mumbai on February 14, 2007. Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath was also present during the event.

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) were the organizers of this forum.

Speaking to media persons, Kamal Nath informed that the Italian PM's visit along with a 150 member high-level delegation will boost economic ties between both nations as Italy is considering the country to be a significant trade partner.

Textiles, industrial machinery, infrastructure, energy, leather, jewellery, fashion designing and IT are main sectors which can enhance bilateral trade.

Prodi opined that despite EU market being strong enough, Italy needs to globalize itself. India has become part of Italy's plans to expand market base overseas.

Italian Trade Commission is to open a branch office in Kolkata this year. Prodi also urged local enterprises to come to Italy.
