Yemeni, crafted in Black Sea town of Safranbolu, has attracted attention of Japanese tourists.

The traditional animal-skin shoe, which were worn by soldiers during the reign of the Ottoman Empire are now sold as tourist item.

Sales of these shoes have decreased so much that they are used as decorative pieces and slippers.

Now, only Japanese tourists are interested in purchasing Yemeni and about 17,638 Japanese tourists have visited Safranbolu over the past two years.

Yemeni makers have already requested Ministry of Culture and Tourism to give more support to skilled trades.
