For fixing support price for cotton in Union Budget 2007-2008, Agricultural Policy Institute's (API) standing committee conducted meeting on February 17, 2007.
Support price of cotton is fixed by the Government after consultation with all stakeholders and expenditure incurred in cultivation.
Various other factors like fertilisers, rent of the tractor, the price of seed, pesticides, labour, irrigation expenses, lease amount etc, were also taken into account.
In 2006, support price of silver fibre was fixed at Rs1025 per maund. Ahead of cotton sowing, which will begin in May, Government has revised the price.
Till February 17, 2007, About 68,500 bales of clean lint have been certified by Pakistan Cotton Standard Institute (PCSI).
Out of more than 2.095 million maund of seed cotton, 962,478 were converted into 68,500 bales of grade or higher and certified as clean cotton.
Out of the certified bales, 58,400 have been sold to exporters and textile mills.
