The annual Saras Mahotsav organized by department of Rural Development to promote rural entrepreneurship was inaugurated at Ambedkar Rally Maidan on Sunday and will conclude on February 23.
The mela is organized with a view to promote brand name 'Saras.' It is a label given to all products manufactured under rural entrepreneurship development project of the department. The scheme is mainly run by the Government of India through state departments.
Craftsmen of UP along with craftsmen of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Orissa and Himachal Pradesh, are participating in the fair.
Creations of craftsmen of these states display furniture from Saharanpur, brass ware from Moradabad, bed sheets and curtains from Panipat, applique work and batik bed sheets and kurtas from West Bengal, suits from Haryana and Punjab and appliqués purses and lamp shades from Orissa.
