The State Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem said that Kerala is an investment friendly destination and the State Government was in favour of Special Economic Zones (SEZs),
The SEZ-status can be granted in deserving cases by the Government if entrepreneurs can avail certain facilities and concessions, he said at a discussion on “Industrial scenario of Kerala” organised here.
SEZ's did follow most of the state labour laws but to avoid bureaucratic hurdles the mechanism to implement labour laws in SEZs was different.
The industrial policy that will be announced shortly will stress on promotion of industrial parks in areas like electronics, garment-making and food processing, Kareem said.
State-run profit making units are expected to increase from 12 to 22 this fiscal year.
Earlier lack of political consensus and continuity in policy proved to be the biggest obstacle for industrial development in state, said Former Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty.
