Exports & imports of texiles for April-October 2006

Exports of textile industry witnessed a surge for April-October 2006 compared to same period of previous year.
In April-October 2006, exports of footwear reached US $663.64 million, an increase of 13.13 percent compared to $586.62 million in same period last year.
During this period, exports of leather and mfrs stood at $961.39 million, a decline of 1.18 percent over previous year's figure of $972.84 million.
However, imports of leather registered a hike of 25.78 percent by reaching $167.02 million compared to $132.78 million in same period last year.
Similarly, imports of raw hides and skins stood at $36.05 million, fell by 4.39 percent.
In this period, exports of gems and jewellery achieved 9,132.31, a decline of 4.35 compared to previous year (US $9,547.83 million).
On the other hand, imports of pearls, precious and semi-precious stones stood at $4,254.54 million, a decrease of 31.35 percent compared to $6,196.99 million.
Exports of sports goods during this period increased by 6.3 percent after reaching $78.43 million compared to $73.78 million.
In April-October 2006, textile industry exported readymade garments at $4,820.18 million with a hike of 3.27 percent over previous year, cotton, yarn, fabrics, made-ups etc, at $2,366.58 million (7.67 percent), manmade textiles & made-ups etc, at $1,299.42 million (13.52 percent), natural silk textiles at $236.97 million (-7.24 percent), wool & woollen mfrsat $49.37 million (-2.76 percent), coir & coir mfrs at $80.92 million (2.94 percent), Jute mfrs at $169.19 million (-2.58 percent), handicrafts at $190.68 million (-34 percent), carpets at $508.41 million (8.86 percent) and cotton raw including waste at $33.64 million (142.12 percent).
