She stressed that the 11th Plan document emphasizes the importance of the handloom sector in providing home-based employment to people in rural areas.

According to Adarsh Kumar, the Executive Director of AIACA, “the lack of data on the handloom serves to make the impact of economic changes on the livelihoods of weavers 'invisible', contributes to their powerlessness in having any say in policy-making that affects their lives and weakens the design and efficacy of policy responses by the Government.”

AIACA is a membership based body that works toward enhancing the competitiveness of craftspeople in mainstream markets and enhancing their incomes. We are commissioning a series of research reports to advocate for and help strengthen polices to support weavers and craftworkers.
