Overall decline of textile exports in January 2007

As per the figures released by Federal Bureau of Statistics, textile exports of all major products witnessed a negative growth.

In January, exports of textile commodities stood at US$764.19 million, a declined of 22 percent compared to December, last year and one percent over same period of previous month.

However, textile exports reached $6.187 billion, an increased of 5.45 percent during July-January of 2006-2007 compared to same period of last financial year.

Similarly, in January of current financial year, decline was also seen in exports of raw cotton by 34.50 percent over preceding month of this year.

Even exports of cotton cloth registered a decrease of 13.70 percent during same period compared to December.

Moreover, exports of Knitwear and bed wear fell by 28.33 percent and 21.62 percent, respectively.

The exports of ready made garments were also down by 19.41 percent and made-up articles reduced by 23.68 percent.

Other textile exports which posted negative growth are towel at 38.63 percent, cotton at 50 percent, cotton yarn at 8.18 percent, art, silk and synthetic texile exports at 23.9 percent and other textile materials at 32.19 percent.
