With Indian Budget 2007-2008 around the corner, gems & jewellery sector is by no means behind in giving its precious comments.

While talking to Fibre2fashion, Abhishek Jain, President, Aum Jewellery said that he expects Honorable Finance Minister, Chidambaram to take steps to keep the fiscal deficit and inflation under proper scrutiny without drying the liquidity from the Indian market, which otherwise could be counter productive for the overall growth of the Indian economy.

Chidambaram should reduce the 5 percent duty levied on Cut & Polish Diamonds.

He also expects to have a slight change in export of Diamond Studded Jewellery. Export of diamond jewellery should be allowed on consignment basis so as to boost the jewellery export and also eradicate excise duty on Branded jewellery. SEZ incentives are quite in place.
