Karnataka State Tailors Association organizes convention for tailors

Karnataka State Tailors Association (KSTA) organized the third convention for tailors here on Wednesday.
Speaking at the inauguration of the convention, Zilla Panchayat President, Sushma Janardhan said, "The government should show concern towards the tailors and provide social security to them.”
She had been a tailor for two years and understands the difficulties faced by tailors, she said.
"Kerala government has been providing social security to tailors besides forming a welfare board,” said Secretary K S Anand of KSTA.
Government must provide social security for tailors in budget, else the KSTA will be forced to stage a dharna in front of residences of Chief Minister, Labour Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, he said.
Association has put forward demands to include registration of tailors in State, form welfare fund board for tailors, pension for retired tailors, financial assistance for construction of house and scholarship for children.
Government was also asked to provide Rs25,000 for marriage of girls of registered members, separate reservation in Jawahar Rozgar Yojana for tailors. Government may levy a tax of 2 percent on readymade garments and the money be used for welfare of tailors.
KTA State President Lakshman S Ullal, CPI (M) State Committee Member Ramachandra Ucchil, KPCC Member U T Khader, Yuva Janta Dal DK President Farook Ullal, Taluk Panchayat member Namitha D Shyam among others were present at the inauguration function.
