According to customs statistics, in 2006, China's total import of clothing and accessories reached US $1.697 billion, an increase of 5.5 percent over the previous year. Among them, woven clothing and clothing accessories accounted for $869 million, up 6.55 percent and knitted apparel and accessories imports amounted to $717 million, a rise of 3.11 percent.
The average price of imported clothing was $2.26 per piece, a year-on-year hike of 11.33 percent. Of which, the average woven apparel import price was $3.71 per piece, an increase of 20.45 percent. The average import price of knitted apparel was $1.57 per piece, a year-on-year increase of 6.08 percent.
Imported clothing consumption accounted for 1.5-1.8 percent of the total sales in China's domestic market.
