Cottage Mela displays vivid arts & crafts

Chennai's Additional Director-General of Police (Economic Offences Wing) Archana Ramasundaram opened 'Cottage Mela' at Sankara Hall, Alwarpet on March 2, 2007. Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India has organized the fair.

Nearly 20 artisans from all over India are participating in the expo. Attractive handmade ceramic wares, flower vases, Khurja pottery from Uttar Pradesh, bowls, coffee mugs, Worli paintings from Maharashtra and Dhokra metal carving by Madhya Pradesh tribals are being displayed.

Shekawati furniture from Delhi, ari and bajara works as well as pichwai paintings from Rajasthan and rosewood items are showcased. Traditional handlooms and terracotta jewellery from West Bengal are an added attraction.

Also exhibited are Maheswari saris from Madhya Pradesh, Banaras zari work bags, Orissa Ikkat handlooms, Kashmiri shawls and papier mache articles. Cottage mela will end on March 12.
