The effectiveness of Turkey in determining the policies of the 450 Billion dolar world textile trade will increase. The presidency of ITMF, considered to be the most important worldwide textile organisation will be taken over by Mr. Halit Narin, President of the Turkish Textile Employers Association in 2008 when the term of the present president Mr. Valter Simeoni of South Africa comes to end.

ITMF, which plays an important role in determining the worldwide policies concerning textiles will undertake an even more important role with the abolition of all quotas in 2008.

Mr. Narin, when asked about coincidence of the abolition of quotas coming during his term, said: "At present, there is a ball rolling around; it will take a great amount of skill and finesse to keep the ball from entering your own goal and to push it in your opponents goal because the goals on this pitch are invisible. I do not believe that all the barriers will be abolished. First they said 2005, thinking it was far away, now it is 2008 but I think by then somebody will yell "the king is naked" and a new ball game will start. It is inconceivable that all the barriers will beabolished."

Mr. Narin also added that two main powers in the world of textiles are China and Turkey and summarised his thoughts about the comperative advantages of these two nations by saying "China if you can communicate with, Turkey if you can cooperate with."
