ANC proposes restriction in textile imports to save jobs

With the purpose of protecting employment, African National Council (ANC) has asked local retailers to co-operate with Government in restricting textile imports. Textile and apparel industries are set to refurbish themselves to ensure stable supply to consumers.
But if Chinese manufacturers fail to fulfill demands, South African Government will consider raising import quota on Chinese textiles and garments, sources informed.
South African textile retailers do not trust Chinese manufacturers completely. They believe that production of local textile and garment units will fall short of demand during festivals and seasons.
