In a board meeting of Export Development Fund (EDF), chaired by Federal Minister for Commerce Humayun Akhtar Khan, authorities decided to stop the funds provided to National Institute of Leather Technology (NILT).

Pakistan Tanners Association had earlier asked for fund of PKR4 million from the EDF for training and development of human resource.

This was agreed in principle of EDF board meeting but refused in the next meeting itself.

Although Government has not given any funds to leather industry in last three years, it has contributed a big amount to the EDF.

At present, leather sector is striving for fund to improve skill and productivity of workers that can help in improving industry's competitiveness in global market.

According to sources, if EDF will provide fund to NILT, every other trade organizations will also demand similar treatment.
