Govt to promote trade with Tunisia

4. The Thai-Tunisian diplomatic relations recently celebrated the 40th anniversary on 2 February 2007.
Later in the afternoon, the Ambassador of Tunisia paid courtesy call on General Surayud Chulanont (Ret.), Prime Minister, on the occasion of his appointment as a new Ambassador to Thailand.
The Prime Minister expressed his congratulation to the Ambassador on the occasion of his audience with HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to present the Letter of Credence on 19 February 2007.
The Tunisian Ambassador conveyed the invitation from Tunisian Prime Minister to Thai Prime Minister to visit Tunisia on the date of his convenience.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister and the Tunisian Ambassador agreed to strengthen diplomatic relations, enhance economic cooperation in tourism and services sectors, expand further trade and investment and stress the importance to sign economic agreements. He also urged the two sides can cooperate in training, exchanging resources and experiences in producing art products such as carpet, silverware, bolt wood, and scarf. The Ambassador mentioned that Thai silk may also capture the interest of Tunisian market.
The Ambassador told the Prime Minister that Thai food is one of the President's favourite cuisine, so there is the a possibility for Thai cuisine's bright future in Tunisia.
On 21 February 2007, the Tunisian Ambassador also called on Mr. Meechai Ruchuphan, President of the National Legislative Assembly, and discussed on the promotion of cooperation between parliamentarians of the two countries.
