Dilli Haat is slated to partially open in Pitampura on March 18 and the biggest attraction is a houseboat in an artificial waterbody, the houseboat idea coming from Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department.
An amphitheatre in the new Haat will open in two weeks and the full Haat which is about 70 percent ready, will be completed by October this year, said P K Dey, Executive Engineer (Civil), Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation, in charge of Pitampura Dilli Haat.
Dilli Haat will have 128 craft shops compared to 80 at INA Market Haat featuring a spice market where spices and handicrafts from all over India will be sold.
The first Dilli Haat was put up on a six acre plot in front of INA market in 1992 to allow rural artisans to sell their products directly to customers and to encourage handicrafts and handlooms.
The Pitampura Haat will have a fully airconditioned arts gallery and a dormitory for visiting craftsmen.
