A buyer-seller meet was jointly organised by Industries and Trade Fair Association of Assam and Office of The Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) the first of its kind in the region.
Participants from abroad showed great interest in various exquisite handicrafts of the Northeast on display at a city hotel. The handicrafts were temporarily shifted from shelves of the ongoing 14th International Guwahati Trade Fair.
Indian participants also got a chance to clarify their doubts regarding exhibits displayed at the fair by foreign participants.
“The products are nice but the workmanship should be further improved to be in tune with the needs of the market,” said Tharadol Thongruang, counsellor (commercial) of the Royal Thai embassy.
Concept of “one village one product”, was followed their country which helped handicrafts sector to a great extent, said Tharadol. Under this concept each village makes one particular product thereby giving them greater scope to reach the export market.
Binod Pradhan, a trade official from Bhutan, said the same concept was also practised in his country.
