Presenting Camille Howie - from ID to Intl world of fashion

If her "Fold/Form" collection is anything to go by, expect big things from Camille Howie (Auckland University of Technology) who was announced winner of New Zealand's Vodafone ID Dunedin Emerging Designer Awards at the Lion Foundation Arena, Edgar Centre tonight.

As winner of the Vodafone ID Dunedin Emerging Designer Awards 2007, Camille Howie takes home $5000 in prize money, and sponsor product to boot.

Designers gathered in Dunedin earlier this week from around the world, having little more than twenty-four hours preparation before the daunting task of speaking to judges about their collections.

Camille Howie's stand-out collection "Fold/Form" stole the show to a packed audience and media contingent.

2nd prize of $3000 went to 2nd prize winner Emily Miller-Sharma (Massey University) for her collection "In my backyard."

3rd prize of $1000 went to Kate Anderson (Otago Polytechnic) for her collection "Where is the line?"

A special prize to show in Italy's world-class Mittelmoda fashion event later in 2007 was won by Sam Fisher (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia). In 2006, the special Mittelmoda prize went to former Otago Polytechnic student Shola Steele who is now working at Benetton.

Stefano Sopelza of Mittelmoda said Sam Fisher's collection was exceptional and deserved a place on the Italian catwalk.

Fashion journalist Stacy Gregg said the Vodafone ID Dunedin Emerging Designer Awards are now a big part of New Zealand fashion, and encourages new designers to put their collections forward for entry.

"I've seen some of the most directional and exciting work coming through in New Zealand in this event.”

The judging panel for New Zealand's third 2007 Vodafone ID Dunedin Emerging Designer Awards were fashion designer and Chair of judging panel, Tanya Carlson, Rex Turnbull of Lino Magazine, Stefano Sopelza of Mittelmoda, fashion designer Cybèle Wiren, and fashion journalist Stacy Gregg.
