Cotton prices continue to remain firm

Cotton lint prices remained firm during second fortnight of February, according to South India Cotton Association (SICA).

Compared to previous fortnight, arrival of cotton in markets were lesser in volume whereas demand for yarn was yet to pick up with regard to increased cotton consumption, said SICA in its market report for the period.

Prices remained firm to steady with marginal movement in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, with Bengal Deshi variety being quoted at Rs1,350 to Rs1,550 and J-34 Saw Ginned at Rs1,680 to Rs1,780 per maund spot.

Maintaining a steady to firm trend, Shankar-6 ruled at Rs17,900 to Rs18,900 and V797 at Rs13,800 to Rs14,300 per candy spot in Gujarat, it said.

With MECH1/H4 being quoted at Rs 17,700 to Rs 19,000 per candy spot, prices maintained a steady to firm trend in Madhya Pradesh, while prices ranged from Rs 17,500 to Rs19,200 per candy spot depending on staple of 28mm to 30mm in Maharashtra.

In Andhra Pradesh, prices maintained a steady to firm trend, as MCU5 ruled at Rs19,500 to Rs21,000 per candy spot.

Price were on a steady to firm trend in Karnataka, where DCH32 was quoted between Rs 31,000 and Rs33,000, Jayadhar Rs15,500 to Rs16,200 per candy spot.

Prices continued to be on steady to firm trend in Tamil Nadu, where cotton arrivals have increased, the SICA said.
