Domestic industries are weighing Egypt as one of the potential export markets.
Sopone Sangthakeong, Director, Thai Trade Centre in Cairo said that Egypt offers huge opportunities for furniture, home-furnishing, decorative pieces and jewelry.
He told the media, "In particular, demand is large for items to suit the new lifestyle of Egyptians, many of whom live in condominiums in big cities. For example, a product from Thailand's One Tambon One Product programme, mango wood vases, is quite popular in Cairo."
Thailand is expected to export to US $480 million worth of products to Egypt this year, up 30 percent from 2006.
Yarn and synthetic yarn, plastic pellets, rubber products and auto parts remain chief export items.
Sopone has urged Thai companies to collaborate with Egyptian enterprises to boost export to third countries.
