But another major cause of worry was the rising prices of zari (used to make silk).
"During the last six months, zari prices had increased to Rs5100 from Rs2500, exerting great pressure on the manufacturers to compromise with the quality," he said.
Implementation of the Act would benefit silk weavers to a great extent as they had been facing several problems since last one decade, said E Muthukumar, General Secretary of Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers Association.
"One of the ancient, traditional industries of the country will be saved from extinction," said J Kamalanathan, Kancheepuram Silk weavers Association Secretary.
