Growth in Manufacturing sector boosts Industrial output to 11%

NEW DELHI:
Industrial production in India rose 10.9 percent in January 2007 compared to 8.5 percent during corresponding period a year ago on the back of robust growth in manufacturing sector.
Industrial production index for the 10-month period ended January showed 11 percent growth compared to 8 percent in the same month last year.
Manufacturing sector registered 11.6 percent growth during January 2007 as against 9.4 percent during same period last year.
Sixteen out of 17 industry groups showed positive growth in January 2007 of which cotton textiles 22.4 percent, wool, silk and man-made fibre textiles 11.6 percent, leather and leather and fur products 14.9 percent, but jute and other vegetable fibre textiles (except cotton) registered a negative growth of 89.2 percent.
