South Korea, which plans an FTA with the US, is not willing to include chief agricultural goods in a bilateral trade deal. This may affect two-way trade because US had previously insisted that FTA should not have any exclusion.
FTA has not been signed till today even after eight rounds of talks between both the countries as two sides have differences over agriculture, textiles, trade disputes etc.
Assistant Agriculture Minister Min Dongseok informed the media that Seoul has rejected deals on key farm products right from the beginning of negotiations.
South Korea is ready to compromise in other ways, like reducing tariff on agricultural items of interest to US except the key ones.
