With the annual review of the foreign trade policy for 2007-08 the Government is working on an incentive package for self-help groups (SHGs), who are manufacturing and exporting their products and also for exporters shipping products sourced from such groups.
The FTP is likely to be announced in the first week of April and this incentive move will support the women as well as generate employment.
The Government reviewed the FTP carried out last year and announced a focus product scheme to encourage export of products which were labour-intensive.
Under the scheme, exporters of leather, handicraft, handloom, sports goods and few others are entitled for a transferable duty credit scrip equivalent to 2.5 percent of 50 percent of the total FOB value. However, the scheme has been restricted to only exports made from EDI ports.
