Textile & footwear sector workshop held in backdrop of WTO entry

A workshop 'Vietnam's WTO accessional commitments: Implications for textile and footwear industries,' was organized on March 15, 2007, at Ho Chi Minh City.
The workshop spelled out numerous directions for the future of textile and footwear sectors.
Tran Huu Buu, Deputy Director, International Cooperation Department, Industry Ministry, called for textile and footwear sectors to focus on highly competitive products and step up on investment to modernize.
Investment be directed at technological upgradation and enhancing of product quality, he added.
Significantly, Vietnam's textile exports in 2006 reached US $5.960 billion, a year-on-year rise of 23.2 percent, while footwear exports earned $3.555 billion in revenues; a 16.9 percent increase over 2005.
