Among the others constraints causing delays and losses to the exporter community are inadequate infrastructure, poor power & ports facilities and cumbersome customs and excise procedures.
The exporters have demanded that the government should lower the duty on the imports of raw material meant for the exports.
They have also requested to take a re-look at the benefits accrued to the industries from the schemes launched earlier relative to schemes launched/replaced in 2006-07.
The 2007-08 budget addressed the social issues and made an attempt to empower the agri-sector keeping the other sectors and areas intact.

We have seen that our closest rivals, China, Thailand and some other ASEAN countries are constantly injecting benefits to their exports industry.
Over a period, with such international developments, to remain cost competitive would call for increasing the support given to the exporting community else the growth momentum will falter.
