In the past well-known foreign brands were representatives of high quality products to Chinese. But in recent years, quality problems of some foreign brands have been frequently exposed.
Many locals have complained about garments of international brand regarding color fading, stitching malfunctions and other such small problems.
Deputy Secretary General of Zhejiang Consumer Protection Committee Ye Yuan-Chun said, “Zhejiang Industry destroyed a number of international brand shoes that were not up to quality standard. The product prices of those brands were much higher than similar domestic products. However, their quality was nothing to boast about.”
Last year, Zhejiang Trade and Industry Bureau conducted a special quality sampling inspection on some clothing brands. The results showed that among 37 lots of foreign apparel brands, 22 were unqualified. Nearly 60 percent of world-renowned clothing brands did not meet the national quality and safety standards.
President-director of the Graduate School of Journalism at the Chinese Academy of Social Science, Shi Tong Yu said, “The change in attitude of worshiping foreign commodities is a clear sign of enhanced national self-confidence. Chinese people are no longer chasing after international brands; they gradually trust and support their own brands.”
