Jiangsu garments strive for fresh avenues overseas

The phenomenon of lack of Chinese textile and garment brands on an international scale has become a bottleneck for the development of textile and garment industries, which continue to experience trade disputes in global market.

Currently, some large textile and garment provinces are introducing various measures to strive for breakthroughs in overseas markets.

In 2006, Jiangsu above-scale enterprises earned around 600 billion yuan from sales, and obtained over US $20 billion from exports. Of which garment exports earned $11.5-12.0 billion with suits, shirts, Down Wear being main export products.

Meanwhile, textile and garment industry in Jiangsu Province has created many renowned brands and completed 48 special industrial bases. But its industrial advantage and competitive advantage have not yet revealed in international market, due to the exports of Jiangsu textile and garment industry are mainly in processing trade.

According to Xie Ming, president of Jiangsu Provincial Textile Industry Association, more and more textile and garment enterprises in Jiangsu now pay attention to enhance product content and value-added products.

The association will make full use of this momentum and guide enterprises to focus on specialized industries, energetically carry out deep processing trade, further strengthening the competitiveness of the industry.

Meanwhile, depending on many famous brands of Jiangsu textile and garment industry, they plan to build up a number of stable quality, high-grade garment export bases with each export value exceeding $100 million. They will also create one to two international brands and 20 nationwide well-known brands through three to five years of efforts.
