Cotton production has become one of the most significant industries in Bangladesh.
Researchers and scientists recently submitted a 'Strengthening the Research Activities of Cotton Development Board' project to the Planning Commission.
This plan proposes the use of bio-technology in cotton production under the supervision of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council, which will help enhance yield and quality.
The plan that requires investment of Tk12.5 crore is eagerly awaiting the approval of the Government.
Bangladesh requires 12 lakh bales of cotton per year but produces about 80,000 bales.
Country's current yield is not adequate to meet the demand of 248 spinning mills.
