CHENNAI: Apparel Export Promotion Council (APEC) recently opened its second Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) here at Mogappair, bringing the total number of such facility of the Council in the country to 22.
Plans were in pipeline to establish three more training centers in and around Chennai, said Vijay Aggarwal, Chairman APEC.
Readymade garment industry is facing a huge shortage of manpower, hence 50 more centers were planned to be set up in order to have more trained personnel.
The training centre offers courses ranging from pattern-making, cutting techniques, production supervision to quality control techniques.
"We will offer training for nearly 300 persons. The centre will also offer a short one-month course catering to specific needs of the garment industry," said Aggarwal.
The first centre in Chennai was set up in 1996 at Guindy.
