Nebraska-based Cabela's to build retail store in Rapid City

"With the thousands of outdoor enthusiasts living in the area, plus the thousands of hunters, anglers and other visitors who travel to the area every year, we expect our new store to become a major attraction - and a significant positive economic impact - for the area."

To operate the new store, Cabela's expects to employ as many as 150 people from Rapid City and the surrounding area. Cabela's typically attracts as employees passionate outdoorsmen and women, who join the Cabela's family of employees famous for their excellent customer service, outdoor lifestyle and detailed knowledge of outdoor products. Product offerings will include hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, boating and wildlife watching gear, as well as outdoor clothing and outdoor-themed gifts and furnishings.

Once agreements are reached, housed in the store will be the South Dakota Black Hills Visitor Information Center, operated by the non-profit Black Hills, Badlands and Lakes Association.

"Having Cabela's come to Rapid City is a crown jewel of our economic development," said Rapid City Mayor Jim Shaw. "The prestige and huge marketing power Cabela's brings will be a major boost to the entire region. This partnership will be a win, win, win for Rapid City, the Visitors Information Center and Cabela's."

"Rapid City has always prospered on commerce and tourism," Shaw said. "That has been our stock and trade since we were founded 130 years ago."
