Cotton export sales highlights

This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period March 9-15, 2007.

Cotton: Net Upland sales of 269,600 running bales were 19 percent above the week earlier and 16 percent over the prior 4-week average. The primary buyers were China (106,600 RB), Turkey (37,100 RB), Pakistan (28,200 RB), Indonesia (17,900 RB), and Mexico (14,200 RB).

Sales of 21,600 RB for delivery in 2007/08 were for Indonesia (20,500 RB) and South Korea (1,000 RB). Exports of 222,800 RB were 15 percent above the week earlier and 6 percent over the prior 4-week average.

The major destinations were Turkey (52,900 RB), Mexico (34,500 RB), China (30,800 RB), Indonesia (16,500 RB), Taiwan (13,400 RB), and Thailand (11,700 RB).

Net American Pima sales of 44,700 RB--a marketing-year high--were mainly for Turkey (15,400 RB), China (9,200 RB), Pakistan (9,100 RB), India (2,500 RB), and Bangladesh (2,300 RB).

Exports of 18,600 RB were primarily to Pakistan (5,800 RB), China (4,800 RB), Bangladesh (1,500 RB), India (1,200 RB), and Taiwan (1,000 RB).
