NEW DELHI:

New Delhi will be hosting two Australian exhibitions on textiles, garments, contemporary jewellery and hollow ware from March 21 to April 6 2007.

Exhibitions will be inaugurated by Australian High Commissioner John McCarthy on Saturday.

The first exhibition "Akira Isogawa: Printemps-E'te'" which informs of creative journey behind the production of designer Isogawa's "Printemps-E'te' Collection 2005" that he presented during Paris Fashion Week three years ago.

Exhibition reveals process by which Isogawa -- one of Australia's most successful designers who left his native country Japan at age of 21 -- has transformed his sources of inspiration into form of garments.

Stages of designer's creative journey are carefully documented in exhibition.

The second exhibition "Beyond Metal: Contemporary Australian Jewellery and Hollowware" showcases a uniquely Australian aesthetic concept that embraces raw as well as recycled materials, innovative design and use of technology in keeping with tradition.

The exhibition displays perceptions of jewellery making and metal-smithing as it introduces and emphasises quality and value of design in the work of contemporary Australian practitioners.

Exhibitions are being presented as part of "AusArts India: Film, Arts, Literature", a two-year promotion of Australian contemporary arts in India by the Australian Government.

This initiative showcases vitality and innovation of current Australian arts practice, focussing on film, visual art and design, literature and performing arts.

Both exhibitions will be staged at Lalit Kala Akademi, Rabindra Bhawan.
