According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2006, China's garment production of above-scale enterprises amounted to 17.002 billion pieces. Among them, woven garments were 8.096 billion pieces, knitted apparel were 8.864 billion pieces, up 11.86 percent, 12.48 percent and 11.17 percent, respectively, compared with 2005.
In 2005, production growth was nearly five percent lower than that in 2006. According to the survey on some garment industrial clusters, most obtained a production growth rate within 10 percent. Minority groups even had negative growth.
In 2006, garment industry actually completed 51.2 billion pieces in clothing output, rise of 10.54 percent over 2005. Around 18.0 billion pieces were woven garments, a growth of 5.88 percent and 33.2 billion pieces were knitted apparel, up 12.54 percent over the previous year.
