7th Autex Textile Conference in Tampere

The 7th Autex Textile Conference has gained great success in collecting abstracts – almost 300 abstracts from about 30 countries were received for scientific evaluation. An interesting conference is thus to be expected to place in Tampere, Finland on 26-28 June 2007.

The main theme of the conference is “From Emerging Innovations to Global Business”. The liberation of textile and clothing trade in 2005 and further activities within WTO have drastically affected on business models of the industry, which is one of the largest worldwide, focusing increasingly on specialization.

The areas of interest at The 7th Autex will response on many challenges for textile technology, new innovations and global textile business. Many of the detailed topics are connected with “the European Technology Platform for the Future of Textiles and Clothing”.

The programme of the three-day conference will consist of plenary sessions in the mornings and three parallel and poster sessions in the afternoons. The themes for different days are Smart and Medical Textiles, Nanofibres and Fibre Structures, Technical Applications, Plasma and Textile Chemistry, Analysing Fabrics, Fashion and Clothing and New Business Developments.

Keynote speakers come from European Commission, WTO, Euratex, Ahlstrom Group, L-Fashion Group Luhta, Polar Electro, Hohenstein Institute, and the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health.

The Conference is organized by Tampere University of Technology, and will be held at Tampere Hall, Finland. The hosting city Tampere is the third largest city in Finland and the largest inland centre in the Nordic countries. Currently there are over 200,000 inhabitants in Tampere, and almost 300,000 inhabitants in Tampere Sub-Region, which comprises Tampere and its neighbouring municipalities.

Tampere's city centre is surrounded by lake and ridge scenery, sited on an isthmus between lakes Pyhajarvi and Nasijarvi. The Tammerkoski rapids run through the city. At the time of the Conference there are no nights in Tampere: in the opening day the sun will rise at 3.44 and set at 23.13. A memorable evening programme including, for example, sauna and swimming in the lake will be organized.
