ABIT holds International Business Meeting in the Northeast

Approximately 70 companies in the textile and apparel sector in northeastern Brazil showed their products to buyers from other countries during the International Business Meeting in the Northeast, which was held March 8-15, with stops at the following cities: Fortaleza, Recife and Joao Pessoa, the respective capitals of the states of Ceara, Pernambuco and Paraíba.

The Meeting was promoted by ABIT with the support of the Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX-Brasil) through Texbrasil. The Association brought foreign buyers to the business round, representatives of companies installed in Portugal, Spain, Costa Rica, South Africa, Jamaica and Colombia. All of the participating companies went through the ABIT Product Suitability Clinic where they received guidance on how to make their products suitable for the international market. Regional influences are the great differentials in the northeast, where the Brazilian identity is highlighted.

Here are some testimonies from participating companies:
“I loved the opportunity to participate in the international business round. I even prepared other models to better serve the buyers, but what they really liked were our models. I made contacts with 11 customers, from several countries. France, Spain, Costa Rica, Portugal, South Africa and Jamaica and they took samples,” said Suenia Brandao de Carvalho, owner of Sereia.

“I am very satisfied with the results and thankful for the guidance I received from ABIT, from the Clinic in which I participated to the information I got from the Round. The knowledge provided me with a solid foundation,” she affirmed.

For Francisca Vieira, owner of the brand bearing her name and president of the Paraíba Garment Industry Union, participation in the event was positive. “The round was very important for my company, because we made contacts that should result in business with Portugal, Spain and Costa Rica. Besides the beachwear and lingerie, women's fashion pieces in colored cotton also attracted some buyers. But we need to send the product with explanatory tags since it is not well known abroad,” she said.
