In the last five years, around Rs19,000 crore fund was allocated to small scale spinning, textile and hosiery units under Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS).
But various associations like Ludhiana Knitters Association, Knitwear and Apparel Export organization, Ludhiana Dyeing Association complained that more than 50 percent of this share went to large-scale spinning units.
Because of this, small-scale units in garment making, knitting and other related industries are unable to upgrade technology and the large-scale units in spinning sector are prospering day by day.
These associations' representatives have written to secretary of Textiles Ministry that subsidies available under TUFS to small scale industries should be increased to 10 percent which at present is five percent and should be continued for next five years. The large-scale spinning units should no longer be given benefits under TUFS scheme.
