Berhampur, Orissa was host to a 10-day Craft Bazaar, recently, where, 150 award winning handicraft and handloom artisans from all over India displayed their creations.
The event organized by Non-Governmental-Organization (NGO) Sradha and sponsored by by the Union Ministry of Textiles, attracted tremendous attention from locals and tourists.
This trade provided opportunity for direct communication between artisans and consumers, bringing in dealings worth almost Rs23 lakhs.
Over 2 million people depend on the handicraft sector in the state and such fairs offer platform for craftsmen from remote regions to lure big orders.
Exposition showcased popular items like jutework from West Bengal, sandalwood items from Mysore, carpet and appliqués of Orissa, Kashmiri shawls and Mizo bamboo accessories, among others, which gained maximum demand.
