As the markets for our yarns are expanding world-wide, new measures are evolved to assess the quality characteristics. One such measure is 'Deviation Rate'. SITRA has just completed a study on Deviation Rate for cotton yarns.

Based on the data collected from mills, guideline values have been arrived at for deviation rates for a wide range of counts from 20s to 100s. An expression has also been derived for the achievable level of deviation rate in cotton yarns based on fibre properties and process variables.

Information on desirable levels of important yarn parameters for high speed weaving could be very useful as the yarn requirement for sophisticated looms is on the increase.

SITRA has just completed a project covering distribution of weak spots in cotton yarns as well as the influence of spinning process variables on the occurrence of weak spots.
