Carpet spreads wings across globe

Turkish carpet has spread its wings across the globe and this is clearly seen in the export figures released by ITKIB.
Total carpet exports from Turkey reached US $745 million in 2006 showing an increase of 11.2 percent over 2005. While machine made carpet export increased 15.9 percent and reached $635 million, hand made carpet export decreased 10 percent.
The Middle East market had a share of 22 percent of Turkey's carpet exports and the export to this area, as compared to the last year, increased 10 percent.
Other important market for Turkish carpet exporters are EU, Former Soviet Republics (Russian Federation Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan), OECD Countries (USA, Canada, Switzerland) with a share of 17.1 , 17.8 and 12.7 respectively.
Turkey's carpet export increased 51.6 percent to Poland, 20 percent to USA, 23.1 to Romania and 26.2 percent to Kazakhstan in 2006. The reason of the increase is intensive marketing activities by the carpet companies of Turkey.
