Textile export in 2006 reached US $5.6 billion, representing year-on-year growth of 14.7 percent.
Due the abolishment of quotas, cost conditions and exchange rates are determinant over the export performance of textile sector. Statistics show that overall performance of the industry has been impressive.
For January-October 2006 term, capacity use of textile and garment sector has been over 81 percent.
EU countries remained top export market at $2.5 billion, followed by Soviet Republics that recorded highest growth. Other major countries as Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan also registered considerable rise.
Italy ranked first with $588.7 million worth exports, followed by Russian Federation at $485 million textile goods.
Knitted, cotton woven and synthetic filament yarns fabrics alongwith bed sheets were top textile product exports of 2006. Knitted fabrics earned $5827 million with 36.3 percent increase.
However, home textile exports decreased five percent to realize $2.1 billion.
