India is eager to enhance trade and economic cooperation with Ethiopia and what could be the best way other than the unique event Ethiopian Millennium to create a firm foundation for development of the nation.
Indian Embassy in Addis Ababa said it has been undertaking various preparations to join in celebrations of the upcoming Ethiopian Millennium.
Holding a discussion with officials of the Ethiopian Millennium National Council Secretariat, Indian Ambassador to Ethiopia Gurjit Singh said on Saturday the embassy is ready to consult with pertinent bodies to coordinate its activities with national millennium celebration programs.
The ambassador said the embassy has been communicating with Indian cultural troupe to encourage them to stage shows in Ethiopia as part of the millennium celebration.
The embassy has also plans to showcase fashion designs of Ethiopia and India and to facilitate a demonstrative training on India's textiles industry to Ethiopian experts in the field.
Ethiopian films would be screened in six major Indian cities and an Indian film week would be held in Addis Ababa as part of the celebration of the millennium to bolster Ethio-Indian cultural ties.
The ambassador also held discussion with officials of the secretariat as to how to erect a statue in Addis Ababa as a token of the Indian people to Ethiopian counterparts.
Secretariat Director-General, Seyoum Bereded on his part said the secretariat has a lot to learn from India about hosting such a grand festival.
While appreciating the initiative of the Indian embassy in connection with the celebration of the Ethiopian millennium, Secretariat Deputy Director and Head of Events Section Abebe Balcha expressed his belief that the cooperation of the embassy would contribute a lot in colorfully celebrating the upcoming millennium.
