The three-day event of Vietnam Textile and Garment Industry EXPO 2007, which closes today has drawn around 350 companies from textile and garment industry.
According to the organizer, CP Exhibition/China Promotion Ltd, this expo will provide an opportunity for companies to promulgate their trademarks, investment opportunities and new technologies in the global arena.
During the Expo, Dang Phuong Dung, Executive Director of Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (VINATEX) discussed country's development strategy for the industry.
In 2006, garment exports touched US $5.93 billion, up 20 percent from last year which represented about 15 percent of total exports of the country.
There are around 2,000 local companies involved in the industry employing about two million people and contributed VND29.14 billion ($1.8 million) to gross domestic product.
Dung urged foreign and local companies to invest in high-end garment and textile products, and also in compact yarn, industrial canvas, polyesters and denim dyeing.
