David Spooner, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Commerce visited Hanoi on April 19, to understand Vietnamese garment and textile businesses and helping them understand about the US policy of import supervisory mechanism.
During a press meet, Spooner said, “The US pledges to carry out its supervision publicly, transparently, and liberally and I assure it will be conducted in line with US commercial laws.”
According to Spooner the Commerce Department had studied data like export categories for Vietnam, export volumes, and the volume of products made in Vietnam and was positive that this mechanism would affect the trade relations between the two countries.
According to figures from the Vietnamese Trade Ministry, garment and textile exports were worth US $1.6 billion in the first quarter, up 30 percent year-on-year.
