CPI for Agricultural & Rural Labourers remain stationary

The All-India Consumer Price Index for Agricultural and Rural Labourers (Base 1986-87 = 100) remained stationary during March 2007 at 392 points for Agricultural Labourers and 393 points for Rural Labourers.

The rise and fall in index varied from state to state. In case of Agricultural Labourers 11 states reflected an increase in indices ranging between 1 to 7 points while in eight states the indices went down by1 to 3 points. It remained stationary in one state.

In case of Rural Labourers, 12 states reflected an increase ranging between 1 to 7 points, in seven states the indices fell by one to three points while in one state the index remained constant.

Rajasthan with 423 points for Agricultural Labourers and Punjab & Rajasthan with 422 points for Rural Labourers figured at the top of the index table. Manipur with 334 points each for Agricultural Labourers and 335 points for Rural Labourers remained at the bottom of the index.

Point to point rate of inflation based on CPI-AL decreased from 9.80% during February 2007 to 9.50% during March 2007 and in respect of CPI-RL it went down from 9.47% to 9.17% during the same period. Respective rates of inflation during March 2006 were 5.29 % and 5.26%.
