Cottons by Century on massive expansion spree

B K Birla Group, recently, revealed aggressive expansion plans for Cottons by Century subsidiary to earn a turnover of more than Rs500 crore.

Mahendra Padhy, Head, Marketing & Retail Operations, said, “We achieved a turnover of Rs48 crore in 2006-07 and have set a target of about Rs110 crore this year. By 2010, we aim to touch Rs500 crore."

Company has also decided to move its Asia's largest 100 percent cotton textile production unit from Mumbai to Bharuch by 2008.

Padhy explained, “It is not commercially viable to have the unit in Mumbai any longer. The unit will remain the largest cotton textile mill in Asia even after the shifting, with better productivity and efficiency level, catering to top-end luxury and premium cotton categories.”

Group disclosed strategies to expand exclusive brand outlets (EBOs) by adding 200 new and 300-400 multi-brand outlets (MBOs) within next three years. By 2008 Gujarat will have atleast 7-8 Cottons EBOs.

Around 90 percent of raw materials for Cottons brand comes from Company's own sources. Padhy informed, “The current capacity of all our units is about 4-5 lakh units per annum and we have a scalability of 5-10 lakh units per annum."
