National Iranian Carpet Center has revealed that carpet export earned US $400 million in 2006, accounting for 41 percent of the world trade.
Germany and the US remained top markets, from where around 60 percent are re-exported to other countries.
Statistics also show that export of hand-woven carpets has dropped two percent since mid-March.
To deal with the problem of imitation by other countries, Iran is demanding intellectual property rights for designs, patterns and brands of carpets.
Another issue that is bothering the Carpet traders is that though prices have been hiked 150 percent since then, they are based on 2001 system.
Centre said that the proposal to raise rates 30-50 percent in 2007 is facing several obstacles but is being considered.
It was also announced that surcharges of 35 percent from capital in circulation, 30 percent from production of materials and 30 percent from tourism have been allocated for carpet advertising and promotion.
