Textile companies need to learn law lessons

According to a statement of Labour Department spokesperson, KwaZulu-Natal Textile Company failed to meet standards set under the Employment Equity Act. For non-compliance of act, the company has to pay around R3,00,000 by month end.

Purpose of this act is to create an atmosphere of justice, to encourage equal chance and to give reasonable treatment to employees at workplace.

Another company, Win-Cool Enterprise, was also charged for overstepping some sections of the act. The company was punished with R1,00,000.

It was observed that the company failed to apply Equity Plan. It was also found that company did not display labour law document on notice board. In addition, it failed to discuss various service procedures with the workers.

There was one more textile firm, which was too fined for non-compliance of law before some time. The Labour Department firmly believes that such judgment will be a good lesson for law breakers in future.
