Coimbatore popular with foreign investors

01
May '07
In just past couple of years Coimbatore has seen aggressive activities as foreign investors pouring in capital through independent or joint venture projects.

Statistics show that the district has around 12-15 joint ventures, either 100 percent export oriented facilities or production units, of which, about 75 percent were set up within last two years.

Around 12-15 are being developed, which include not only engineering but also textile and clothing manufacturing units.

Experts believe that Coimbatore has potential to attract foreign investment around Rs4,000 crore in next two years.

It is said that enterprises are preferring places like this district because of its ample availability of advanced technology and land areas within 25-30 km. Places like Chennai, though developed, do not offer large lands within reach.
